Bridget was born with music in her blood. From
an early age she loved to sing and as she grew up her singing became more and
more important.
As a child, taking piano lessons meant she was able to accompany herself, and
she also learned to play guitar (she bought her first acoustic guitar when she
was aged 15 after she won £50 on her Premium Bonds).
When she was growing up, her parents always had the radio on and she would
listen for hours. As a teenager, she discovered that parents of school friends
often had interesting record collections and she was drawn to the soul, groove
and funk genres.
"I’ve always felt that singing was more special to me than playing an
instrument because using my singing voice meant I had something special to
convey – the LYRICS!"
After she settled in London she began looking for musicians that she could work
with. She met a pianist and they began to perform regularly at venues in and
around London and eventually they formed a band.
She had now begun to write her own songs and was adding them in to her live set.
"I wrote what I wanted to write. I didn’t think that the songs were any
particular genre, I wasn’t particularly bothered about genres I just wrote what
was happening at the time".
Fate sometimes happens out of the blue. Late last year a message arrived for
Bridget via her MySpace site. A soul radio DJ was asking about a track on her
page and could he please have a copy to play on his show. The track was
On The Beach and he loved it so much that he circulated it to his
colleagues.
DJs from all over the world began picking up on the track too and before Bridget
knew what was happening, On The Beach had entered the Sweet Rhythms Chart.
There was a buzz. Bridget was being made welcome by the soul scene, and she
welcomed them in return. And, most importantly, listeners were responding
enthusiastically too.
There are probably only a few singers you’ll hear in your lifetime whose voices
make you tingle. There are probably only a few entertainers you’ll know who
you’ll always admire and respect. Bridget is one British singer, songwriter and
entertainer who is so comfortable on stage that she holds the audience in the
palm of her hand. Bridget is a Star.
